Christmas Shoes

“Sir I wanna buy these shoes

For my mama please

It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size

Could you hurry, sir

Daddy says there’s not much time

You see,

She’s been sick for quite a while And I

know these shoes will make her smile And I

Want her to look beautiful

If mama meets Jesus tonight”

“The Christmas Shoes” is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I’m not a sentimental person but I could totally relate to this song. So, whenever it comes on, I go into deep thought, usually reminiscing of the past. As a child, I would listen to this song and tear up because I was that kid in the song – one that knew there was a possibility that her mother could meet Jesus at any given time.

My mother has been sick most of my life. Her illness has caused her to be unable to walk…She’s had countless surgeries and visits to the ER. And, recently, she had a stroke and lost the ability to speak as eloquently as she used to. Don’t ask me what caused all this because your guess is as good as ours. I don’t want to go to detail but I will say this, there were plenty of times when I almost lost her.

Even though my mom is always in constant pain, there’s always a smile on her face. She doesn’t blame God for her illness; she thanks Him because His work is being done through her. It’s crazy because my mother has more vivaciousness than people who are perfectly healthy. She is the most encouraging person I know and because of her, I am the optimistic (with a dash of realistic) person that I am. Through her suffering, she reminds me of hope. Her life is a testament to all around her. And, I’m so grateful that I have her. Her life is the best gift I could have ever received.

Appreciate what you have, people. Christmas is more than the gifts. It’s about recognizing what you have already, it’s realizing how blessed you are, it’s about a baby boy that came to save us all. And, He did. Let’s not materialize Christmas as we tend to do to our lives, shall we?

You thought this post was about fashion, didn’t you?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Your mom would be sooo proud of you. I hope you share it with her. Sometimes moms need to know that their daughters are inspired by them. She is such a wonderful lady- she has so many reasons to live- she is not going anywhere. Don’t worry- the same god that kept her before, will keep her again.

Awwww, thank you so so much, Sherley! I did share this with her and she called this post her “Christmas gift” 🙂 She really does inspire me in all that I do. And, definitely, I know God is in control. Thank you for the encouragement. I greatly appreciate it!
